TGFY (TheGirlFromYesterday)

I agree with the person who suggested it earlier. I would love to see a translation of your signature poem. I'm not lazy, I'm just not smart enough yet!!!!!!

I try to do do.

Quýt nhà ai chín đỏ cây = In someone's garden, ripened tangerines are red on the tree.

Hỡi em đi học hây hây má tròn = Hi, the rosy-cheeked young girl who go to school

Trường em ngói đỏ trong thôn = In the hamlet, the tiled roof of your school is red.

Ríu ra ríu rít chim non đấu mùa = Prattling like the birdies at the beginning of the harvest.

I think my translation is impossible to express the beauty of the poem. It depicts the peace of the countryside in Vietnam in harvest, the innocence of the country children and much much more than that...

When reading this poem, I fret with beautiful memories in the past: peaceful childhood with friends, with the rice fields, with the sound of the nature: birdies, grasshoppers, frogs ...

Dear Giang !

Thanx alot for your translation which is really beautiful.I was thinking about translating it as ABC had suggested but didnt know where to start and how to start.I have to admit that I don't really have so much feeling for reading English poems .I guess this is because of my trying to understand the meaning that can't feel the beauty of them .

I learnt the poem from primary school and put it somewhere in my head till one day ,5 years ago(or more),a little girl passing by and read it loudly .An strange feeling had come to me like I m touching my childhood, like I was laughing with friends on the way to school and I was really moved that stood still .

From that time the poem is always on my mind. And each time reading it always brings me feeling as the first moment when hearing it from the little girl again.Và "Thấy mình bỗng dưng hiền thế"

To bschuses :Mi chiamo Liên e sono una studentessa.Come ti chiami? Piacere !

So u can call me Liên for more easily to type instead of TGFY.Bye the way, thanx for ur encouragement in Vietgirls topic .It really helps me much to keep on trying !!!

Em Giang

I enjoyed your translation as well. Is this a common form for Vietnamese poetry? With alternating parallel themes?
