Any person who has learned a foreign language, probably has made mistakes. Lots of mistakes. I am sharing these stories, so that those who are starting to learn a language know it is okay to make mistakes. Don't be afraid to practice. Most people are really nice. They will smile and gladly correct your mistakes for you.
For the longest time, whenever I wanted to say "I am excited" in Spanish, I would say "Estoy excitada." Little did I know that "Estoy excitado/a" means "I am sexually aroused". So, every time that our high school Spanish class went on a field trip, I told my fellow classmates, "Estoy muy excitada para el paseo" (I am very horny for the trip). The horrible thing was nobody corrected me until one day, I told a Costan Rican that I am very "excited" to go to the movies with him.
A person in my study abroad program thought "peine" (Spanish word for comb) sounds like "pene" (penis). One time, she asked her host mother if she has a comb, but it came out as "do you have a penis?" Well, the good news is, now she can clearly differentiate between the two words.
