Another thread on here reminded me of this...so how hard is it to get good chocolate in Vietnam? I've heard that lactose-containing products aren't very popular in asia...so does chocolate have a non-lactose base there, or is it just not very popular at all?
I want to know if I need to bring my own with me if I go. :)
well, in Ha Noi, there is a company which imports chocolates only from Belgium. I always buy chocolates there as gifts for friends and also for myself. I really like dark chocolates and I used to eat them everyday, but now I'm on diet and I want to be fit again :)
guys, stay away from local chocolates because they are so sweet and not made properly. Personally I don't like milk chocolates since they are so sweet, not fragrant and taste like you are drinking milk, even if they are made from Belgium or France.

My Vietnamese friends really like chocolate, but always tease that it must be 73%....really dark. It is available in the airport gift shops in VN really inexpensively. If you are on your way to VN, you'll pay about 10 times as much in the US or HK.
the asian population in general have a lactose issue don't they? or did i imagine reading that somewhere? that would explain khatores question about lactose products not being popular etc.
dark chocolate and milk chocolate are the two extremes of the chocolate range (as far as i know, unless there is something i've missed). when you are used to dark chocolate the milky stuff can taste quite bland, but on the other hand if you are used to milk chocolate then eating dark chocolate can be like eating pepper or something else really harsh and bitter.
****IT NOW I WANT CHOCOLATE! milk chocolate of course.

I Wan Dark Choco
I have some 100% at the house. It doesn't get any darker. :D
There's a pretty cool store near here that sells everything from milk (~33%) to the darkest I've ever seen mixed (88%). They also have Dagoba 87%, but not the 100%. Lindt also makes 85% which is widely available, but I think it's Nigerian.
I wish there were a place nearby that mixes and/or makes it on the spot.
ouch. wouldn't that stuff melt your stomach away and burn your intestines??? i'm basing this purely on how it tastes. i imagine it'd be like sucking on warheads (the candy, not the weapon... though it's almost a weapon).

Nope. In fact, chocolate is quite good for you. Milk chocolate IMO is too sweet and somewhat bland. I won't be racist against your chocolate though. :p
ahahahaha, ahahah, hah, ahhhhh i like it. it's always the quiet ones.
i think i'd get some sort of chocolate hangover eating 100% chocolate. wouldn't 100% chocolate just be cocoa and water? eww
