"Outsourcing" is a term used when a company in one country hires people in another country to do work for them, because they will do it for cheaper. For example, America Online is known for hiring people in India to answer phones, because Indians already speak English since they were a British colony. Unfortunately, they tend to have a very heavy accent, and is very difficult for many people to understand.
Anyway, today I was watching VTV 4 and noticed some footage of offices with computers that had lists of US states and cities, and people talking on phones. I assume they are outsourced customer service representatives who are talking to Americans.
Is there a lot of outsourcing from companies in the West, and if so, how much? Does anyone here work for one? If so, what are your experiences in doing this kind of thing?
