True. English must to learn Vietnamese when they exchange with us.

Hello,
It's impossible to judge your thinking true or false. Each person has his/her particular situation. If one don't need to communicate with English speakers, then they won't need to learn. Just like you learn to drive a bike or a car. If you don't need to drive it, either because you are a peasant who works on the ricefield all the time, or because you are a big boss who has a private driver, then you will not learn.
Think about who need who and when and why and how. A young student who is studying abroad, and who need to learn scientific knowledges that later he can go back and apply these knowledges in VN, will learn English.
Welcome these thinkings. VIEX is the place for discussion.

Hi DangTrungHieu,
Your English is pretty good! English is hard because there are so many rules and exceptions to those rules. I was raised speaking English and I still have trouble with spelling and grammar ;) I am hoping that learning Vietnamese will be easier...

I'm a native speaker, and I can understand you well enough. Of course, writing is different from speaking, but you seem to be at least functional.
Don't worry too much if your English is not perfect. Here's why:
- There are hundreds of dialects of English across the world and among ethnic and cultural groups. There is no such thing as perfect English; the British say that London English is proper, Americans say that Midwest is the best, etc. Don't believe any of it.
- Because of the massive number of foreign speakers, most native speakers are used to hearing a wide variety of accents, and don't think that much about it. Probably 80% of English speakers are "still trying". When you're in the majority, it's ok. :)
- English is a really hard (and huge!) language, and most native speakers don't even speak it correctly. The Oxford English Dictionary is the largest dictionary ever created, and it's not even complete.
So, don't be too worried or frustrated about it - just learn at your own pace and speak what you can. As long as you can communicate, you'll be ok.

Hello WaterSG,
I think that joining this forum is a very good way to learn English and to help people learning Vietnamese. I have some exchanges with some members here using Yahoo Messenger, and it works very well. Now I feel that my English improves everyday and also happy that my friends can now speak a little Vietnamese.
Cheers
Camly

Hi everybody!!
I'm a quite new member here and just known about this forum . But I can see that it's very useful for everybody to practise and improve their English. I know that my english is still not perfect and there are still many mistake . At work, I only use simple words and phrases to communicate, to write e-mail , so my vocabulary now is much more less than some years ago. I do hope that all of you here will wellcome and help me in improving my english!! I'm very eager to chat with you on YM by english!! My YM 's id is: nttext (same as my ID in this forum). Tks a lot!! :P

Dear nttext, you are mostly right. However, please remember that this forum is also for no-Vietnamese people to learn Vietnamese. In this world, nothing comes to you if you don't give something. If we want to be helped, help people first. I understand that principle when I go to live in US.

Dear Camly,
I think the message I have sent to this topic is the same content with the others, just want to make friend with english speaking people to help each other . Before sending this message I've read many topic and many messages in this forum and I see that everybody is very nice, eager to help each other if they could. That's why I want to join in and of course I will try my best to help each other if I could like every member here . I'm very upset when reading what you've writen because I think the principle you mentioned is so simple and all of us have it in mind no matter we live in Vietnam or US or anywhere in the world, no need to speak out!! Or you thinhk that I should point out clearly that principle at my first message?? I never think that I will help other people in order to receive some help returns!!!

@camly: Personally, I don't see anything wrong with nttext's post. The notion of language-exchange was implied in his/her offer since he/she didn't deny to help others. It's very obvious that a Vietnamese would be glad to assist the one who helps him learning English learn Vietnamese within his scope. Furthermore, your principles are of your own. Don't apply them to anyone as a measurement of moral even if they sounds fundamental to you. Anyway, I think you just misread somewhere. You're a nice girl (I can tell). BTW, nice to be a friend with you. :D
@nttext: relax!. I don't think camly really meant to say bad about you. Hope you two can settle the disagreement. 8)

There is obvious misunderstanding here. I think maybe these lines by camly have triggered the issue: "If we want to be helped, help people first. I understand that principle when I go to live in US." They may sound a bit like a basic lecture to most people. Anyway, let's let go of this.

We totally agree with nktvn.
To Camly: Please read back your post and make sure that it's not too ambigue that it sounds a lecture to people. We understand what you mean and we think your statement "If we want to be helped, help people first." is always right. VIEX and EV are working on this very principle.
To NTText: Welcome to VIEX and even though you can't immediately help people. Your introduction is very nice and friendly and we think you will be a friendly member among us.
I would like to close this thread, as has gone farther than its initial purpose.
